"

Being awarded a BBT Fellowship has been a major event in my life. It gives me the financial support to realise my musical ideas and therefore gives me my artistic freedom. And being on the same roaster with so many great artists of such renown is a huge inspiration and motivation for me. A sincere thank you...

Alexandra Conunova"
Alexandra Conunova attracted public and critical acclaim when she won First Prize at the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Hanover in autumn 2012. She was praised by the jury for her vivid tone and her highly virtuoso dramatic art and Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung wrote that she "shows with what radiance of tone she is able to endow her music-making. Her interpretations of Bach’s baroque dances are sometimes austere and yet wonderfully cantabile, at other times truly dance-like or – as in the Bourrée – with a high degree of virtuosity."  In 2015 Alexandra was awarded the Third Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Violin Competition.

Highlights among her recent and forthcoming performances including appearances with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, NDR Hannover, Camerata Bern, China Philharmonic Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia and Virtuosi Italiani, alongside such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Theodor Curentzis, Andrew Manze and Vladimir Spivakov.

She regularly appears in the festivals at Verbier, Aix-en-Provence, Colmar, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Gstaad and others. She is also a devoted chamber musician, regularly collaborating with such artists as Boris Brovtsyn, Gérard Caussé, Renaud Capuçon, Finghin Collins, Blythe Teh Engstroem, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Yura Lee, Michail Lifits, Alexander Melnikov, Paul Meyer, Edgar Moreau, Andreas Ottensamer, Julien Quentin, Alexei Stadler, Kirill Troussov, Istvan Vardai and others.

In her hometown of Chişinău, capital of Moldova, Alexandra Conunova has recently founded the VitArt charity foundation to help disabled people and young music students. In September 2015 she was awarded the honorific title Master of Arts by the Moldovan President.

Prokofiev Violin Sonatas

Prokofiev Violin Sonatas

Prokofiev:Violin Sonata No 1 in F minor Op 80 ii Allegro brusco (start)

Prokofiev:Violin Sonata No 2 in D Op 97a i Moderato (excerpt)

Alexandra Conunova brings together two sides of Prokofiev’s character in this recording of the two Prokofiev Violin Sonatas, music with which she has a special affinity.  With pianist Michail Lifits, she contrasts the dark and severe First Sonata, actually finished second and premiered by dedicatee David Oistrakh only in 1946, with the brighter and friendlier Second Sonata from 1943.

ALEXANDRA CONUNOVA’S PROKOFIEV

The Violin Sonatas on Aparte

Alexandra Conunova makes her debut recording on the Aparte label, together with pianist Michael Lifits.  The repertoire is close to Alexandra’s heart: the contrasting Violin Sonatas by Prokofiev - one of deep anguish, the other of simplicity and lyricism - providing a synthesis of Prokofiev’s style.  In tandem with the recording, supported by the Borletti-Buitoni Trust, John Blanch made this film that explores the artists’ relationship with the composer.
