Apollon Musagète Quartet "

The ARD International Music Competition winner in 2008, the Apollon Musagète Quartet has rapidly become an established feature of the European musical scene, captivating public and press alike; the Süddeutsche Zeitung has for example noted: "If Apollo had played the violin instead of the lyre, this is exactly how it would have sounded."

The quartet made its debut in 2010 at the Philharmonie in Berlin and, in the same season, it was nominated as ECHO Rising Stars by both the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna. This was followed by highly successful performances at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, the Philharmonie Cologne and at the Cité de la Musique in Paris, as well as in Barcelona, Luxembourg and Vienna. The Quartet was named BBC New Generation Artist in 2012 and more recently as recipient of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award in 2014.

An essential element of the Quartet’s work is its collaborations with living composers such as Konstantia Gourzi and Krzysztof Penderecki; in addition to the traditional repertoire for string quartet, the group has had a number of works dedicated, often on the theme of its mythical inspiration Apollo. Concert programmes also include the quartet’s own compositions: Multitude for String Quartet and A Multitude of Shades; these collective compositions were also published by Doblinger, a traditional Viennese publishing company.

In 2010 the ensemble’s released their debut CD as well as Russian Soul in 2014 with works by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, both on Oehms Classics. The quartet has also recorded works by Lutosławski, Penderecki and Górecki for Decca Classics.

Apollon Musagète Quartet plays John Adams & self-composed work
BBT Award winners in 2014, the members of the Apollon Musagète Quartet are joined by the Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg conducted by Gérard Korsten in Feldkirch, Austria.  On the bill is John Adams’ recent concerto for string quartet and orchestra, Absolute Jest, which the quartet follows with their own composition A Multitude of Shades.  Meanwhile the Quartet enthuses about the energising and magical qualities of connecting with audiences.  Indeed, they feel that they can only come together "when we perform for someone and tell a story."
