This album is an invitation to listeners to join the Dudok Quartet Amsterdam in a very different encounter with Brahms’ chamber music. Always searching for new ways to vitalise their approach to music and communicate with their audiences, the Dudoks decided to explore these quartets with gut strings and early Romantic bows because these unwound strings replicate the sound Brahms would have known. This configuration revealed new sonorities and rhetorical possibilities to the players and opened up their own experience of Brahms in a fresh and enlightened way with a renewed sense of understanding and perspective.

The third Franco Buitoni Award was given to Silvia Colasanti, an Italian composer much admired and respected by Ilaria Borletti Buitoni, creator of the award in memory of her husband who established the Trust with her.  To honour both BBT founders Colasanti composed Love Song for piano, percussion and string orchestra. The official presentation of the award took place at Teatro Morlacchi after the world premiere performance with pianist Beatrice Rana (BBT Fellowship 2016) in Perugia, Franco Buitoni’s birthplace.
