Amatis Trio - About

It is such a privilege to have the opportunity to explore creative ideas in an encouraging, knowledgeable and forward-thinking organisation. The BBT family has allowed us to search and innovate through both its financial support and the expertise and open-mindedness of the BBT team. We are dreamers, but in an industry that is so stuck in its ‘old ways’ it can be hard to move the needle. BBT gives us all the tools we need to bring our projects to the stage.

Amatis Trio (2021)

The Amatis Trio, formed in Amsterdam and of British, Dutch and German extraction, is based in Salzburg. Its international reach has hit 43 countries (and counting). Alongside the classical piano trio repertoire, the Trio has commissioned a number of works and seeks to create innovative programmes and form long-term collaborations with such partners as baritone/narrator Thomas Quastoff and fellow BBT alumna, Annelien Van Wauwe, among others.

The Amatis Trio came up with practical and creative projects to use its BBT Fellowship. Essential considerations for working artists – photographs and travelling cases – were easy choices, but their main project was a specially-created weekend of concerts at the Berlin Konzerthaus, which allowed the Trio to curate its own programme, featuring classic Schubert and Mendelssohn alongside a musical travelogue through all four seasons as composed by Piazzolla, Beethoven, Horovitz, Milhaud and Liszt, together with the clarinettist Ib Hausmann.

The Amatis Trio was supported with a BBT Award between 2020 and 2024.
