Leonkoro Quartet - About

For the German Leonkoro Quartet, founded in 2019, its BBT Award was the latest in a long line of prestigious international prizes and accolades, all of which confirm its place among the most celebrated ensembles of the current generation. The Quartet is welcomed at some of the most prestigious halls in Europe’s capitals and in early 2025 they made a similar impact across North America: “Based on this triumphant New York debut, their ascent to the highest echelon of international chamber ensembles seems not just likely but inevitable” (Front Row Centre, New York). The Quartet’s studies continue with the likes of Heime Müller at the Musikhochschule Lübeck and Günter Pichler at the Albéniz Foundation’s Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid.

In addition to contributions to new bows for two of the ensemble’s players, BBT has supported the significant internal travel costs of the Leonkoro’s debut US tour in Spring 2025, an important milestone for any young quartet, and for which its players attracted rave reviews from the East to the West coast. And following the Quartet’s first recording of Ravel and Schumann quartets released on the Mirare label, BBT is also marking the Leonkoro’s new relationship with Alpha Classics, through the support of a debut album due for release in 2026.

Leonkoro Quartet has been supported with a BBT Award since 2024.
