Alina Ibragimova - About

I was very happy and very honoured to receive BBT Award in 2008. I think in today’s world young musicians need the kind of special help and support the BBT is giving to so many people. For me, it has been a very generous help without which some projects would not have been possible. I have huge admiration for what BBT has done, is doing, and will do in the future. Their generosity and enthusiasm are greatly needed and appreciated by all.

Alina Ibragimova (2009)

Performing music from baroque to new commissions on both modern and period instruments, Russian-born Alina Ibragimova MBE is one of the most accomplished and intriguing violinists of her generation and plays with renowned orchestras in famous concert halls all over the globe – time and time again. The Berliner Morgenpost summed up why: “Alina Ibragimova scaled the greatest musical heights, yet in the most endearing manner. Avoiding ostentatious virtuosity, she played with a purity of intonation seldom heard, understanding like few others how to really make music with an orchestra.”  She also brings the same qualities and commitment to chamber music; her longstanding partnerships include her duo with pianist Cédric Tiberghien and the much sought-after period ensemble Chiaroscuro Quartet of which she was co-founder in 2005. Alina’s extensive discography embraces these partnerships as well as symphonic and solo recordings.

BBT helped Alina to buy a new bow and also to secure a living/working studio in Berlin that acted as a sanctuary and a meeting place with musical colleagues where she could rehearse and practice freely. Alina also took part in BBT’s 10th anniversary weekend at London’s Southbank Centre, including standing in at short notice to replace another BBT artist who was unwell; her tiny figure on a big empty stage playing solo Bach was spellbinding and unforgettable.

Alina was supported with a BBT Award between 2008 and 2010.
