Aleksey Shadrin - About

Born into a family of musicians in Kharkiv, cellist Aleksey Shadrin is a passionate advocate of Ukrainian culture and is steadfastly committed to bringing the works of his country’s great composers to international audiences. This clearly expressed mission has ensured him a BBT Special Award to help realise his ambition of commissioning new work from a leading Ukrainian composer.  Among other numerous international prizes are the Lysenko International Music Competition in Kyiv, Prague Spring International Music Competition, and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (2022).

Aleksey performs as a soloist in leading concert halls throughout Europe and regularly collaborates with internationally renowned musicians – among them BBT alumni Quatuor Ébène and Nicolas Altstaedt – and orchestras, including the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Opéra National de Montpellier, Belgian National Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic and NDR Radiophilharmonie. Aged seven, Aleksey enrolled at the Kharkiv National University of Arts for gifted children under Professor Elena Schelkanovceva and went on to study at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and the Kronberg Academy. He was subsequently selected as an artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium.
