Samrat Majumder is a Scottish-Indian classical guitarist on the brink of a stellar professional career – recently announced as one of Classic FM’s Rising Stars for 2026 – while still immersed in his music studies. In recognition of his musicality, virtuosity and clear artistic vision, he has an impressive portfolio of prizes and awards, including the honour of becoming the inaugural Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) 40th Anniversary Artist in 2025; Samrat also joins the roster of YCAT and Concert Artists Guild (USA) Artists to help him develop his performance career, a process now also supported by his BBT Fellowship.
Samrat began his music education at the junior school of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he went on to attain a First Class Honours degree and is now its Classical Guitar Ambassador. Having attained an MMus from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, he is currently studying for his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.
An essential part of Samrat’s identity is his sincere enthusiasm for sharing his love of music, not only in performance with audiences, but also encouraging and teaching other talented young musicians. He is co-founder and teacher of a mentorship programme in India that offers select classical guitarists regular lessons as well as opportunities to connect with professors and institutions in Europe, with the prospect of applying for higher education studies abroad in the future.
