Elena Xanthoudakis - Biography

Award-winning Australian, Elena Xanthoudakis is an expressive soprano who performs a wide and varied repertoire to enthusiastic reviews.

Elena is perhaps most known for her bel canto interpretations. Since releasing her BBT CD Jewels of the Bel Canto conducted by Richard Bonynge her many bel canto role debuts include Pia di Tolomei  (UK stage debut, English Touring Opera),  Giulietta  I Capuletti e i Montecchi  (Greek National Opera), Violetta La Traviata, (Winslow Hall Opera), Maria Stuarda, Anna Bolena & Desdemona in Rossini’s Otello (Melbourne Opera), as well as revisiting Lucia di Lammermoor  (Winslow Hall) and Adina, L’elisir d’amore  (Singapore Lyric Opera), and toured a gala programme of serious Rossini Opera (Fireworks) for ETO.

Other roles include: Lisa/Amina La Sonnambula (Covent Garden), Frasquita Carmen (Covent Garden & ENO), Pamina Magic Flute (ENO, Clarion Opera NYC, Opera de Quebec), Gilda Rigoletto (Opera Queensland), Clorinda La Cenerentola (Glyndebourne; Covent Garden), First Niece Peter Grimes (Rome) & Jemmy Guillaume Tell (Accademia di Santa Cecilia/Pappano and BBC Proms), Adina L’elisir d’amore  (Scottish Opera; Victorian Opera): Euridice/Genio L’anima del Filosofo (Pinchgut Opera, Sydney), La Contessa di Folleville, Il viaggio a Rheims (Maggio Musicale, Florence). Elena has performed in Oratorio & Song recital throughout Australia, the UK, Ireland and Italy as well as in Japan, Hong-Kong, St Petersburg, Montreal, Quebec, Germany and the USA. She has performed with numerous orchestras including the Scottish Chamber, Royal Scottish National, Melbourne Symphony, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, St Petersburg Camerata, Verdi Orchestra, Milan and the Mozarteum Orchestra.

Elena won the Maria Callas International Grand Prix, the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg, is a multi-laureate at the Jeunesse Musicales – Voix, Montreal and a prize-winner at Placido Domingo’s Operalia.
