"In the life of a young artist, the freedom and space for artistic inspiration and development are essential. The Borletti-Buitoni Trust's committee and staff are full of incredible personalities whose main goal is precisely to give this. They offer not only the financial support to help build ones dreams, but also the advice, encouragement and practical means to realise them. Their help, although financially very important and meaningful, seems therefore priceless to me."
Antoine Tamestit, Award Winner 2006
The Borletti-Buitoni Trust recognises that successful young artists need continued support, not only in financial terms but also advice, help and direction. BBT Awards and Fellowships provide all of these.
All winners are given a budget and they are invited to suggest what they want that money to do for them. The Trust will then provide support to ensure that the award is well spent.
Projects that have been created using BBT awards include high profile commissions and CD recordings. Artists have used their awards to assist with purchasing instruments. Others have used funds for PR campaigns and to create marketing materials such as photographs, publicity folders and websites. Budgets have also been used for survival money, studying and travel costs.
There are no set criteria, artists are encouraged to be creative and to use their awards in a way that will help to establish and build their careers.
As well as the award budget, winners are in contact with people involved with the Trust, who are available to provide advice and support as appropriate to them. These include the Chief Executive, Susan Rivers and the Artistic Committee.
The Trust's PR Consultant Debra Boraston provides PR for all projects funded by the Trust. Because of this BBT achieves significant coverage for its winners internationally.
A printed news release is distributed to a worldwide mailing list twice annually. In addition, the Trust distributes an E-Newsletter to over two thousand people internationally three times each year.
The Trust produces a number of films annually, produced by Projects Consultant David Hoskins, which are published on this website. These focus on the award winners and projects that have come from their BBT awards. Any audio recordings that are made with support from the Trust are also featured on this website.
Artists have taken part in a number of special projects that have been supported by BBT, including concert tours, residencies and masterclasses.
