Messiaen Education Project
Messiaen Education Project with Southbank Centre, London
Borletti-Buitoni Trust is supporting the Southbank Centre's Learning and Participation team to produce an education programme to run alongside the 2008 Messiaen Festival, "From the canyons to the stars." Events included a study day on Messiaen's seminal work Quatuor pour la fin du temps, on 3rd February, the starting point for the programme that followed. On 19th April, clarinettist Martin Fröst, violinist Soovin Kim and cellist Christian Poltéra hosted a session to look at the work with a group from London's Centre for Young Musicians. The three BBT winners will perform Messiaen's quartet on 6th November together with Mitsuko Uchida, as part of BBT's fifth anniversary tour. Finally, during the summer term 2008, the Southbank Centre will stage a series of workshops in primary schools based around Messiaen's work.
