25-year-old German cellist Maximilian Hornung is developing a stellar career as a soloist and chamber musician (with Christian Tetzlaff, Lisa Batiashvili and Mischa Maisky among others) and has an exclusive recording contract with Sony Classical. He studied with Eldar Issakadze, Thomas Grossenbacher, and David Geringas. Since winning the German Music Council’s Competition in 2005, he has appeared at the festivals of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Rheingau, Heidelberg, Kissingen, Ludwigsburg, Lucerne and Verbier. Concerts have taken him to the Philharmonie Berlin, Konzerthaus Wien, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Gewandhaus Leipzig, KKL Luzern, Tonhalle Zürich, Herkulessaal in Munich, and London’s Wigmore Hall. Maximilian Hornung has performed as a soloist with many of the world’s most renowned orchestras including the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players and the Southwest German, Württemberg and Munich Chamber Orchestras. His debut CD was released on the GENUIN label and was awarded the French Classique-Info Ring prize. Further CDs include a release on Bridge Records featuring the premiere recording of Yehudi Wyner’s cello concerto with the Odense Symphony Orchestra. Maximilian Hornung is principal cellist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Mariss Jansons and is supported by the Anne-Sophie Mutter Circle of Friends Foundation. His highly acclaimed first Sony CD won him an ECHO Klassik prize as best newcomer of the year and his second, Dvorák’s Cello Concerto with Bamberg Symphony under Sebastian Tewinkel, was released in January 2012. Maximilian Hornung received a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in February 2012.
