Elena Xanthoudakis holds music degrees from Victorian College of the Arts and the University of Melbourne. On scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she received her MMus with distinction in 2005. Elena also studied as part of a young artist programme at the Maggio Musicale (Florence). Internationally Elena has won the Maria Callas International Grand Prix 2003 (Oratorio - Lied) in Athens, the renowned International Mozart Competition 2006 in Salzburg, International Adam Didur Opera Singers Competition 2008 and was a major prize-winner in Operalia 2008. Operatic roles include Amina and Lisa La Sonnambula, Clorinda La Cenerentola, Frasquita Carmen (Royal Opera, Covent Garden), Frasquita Carmen, Krista The Makropulos Case, Miss Schlesen Satyagraha (ENO), Xenia Boris Godunoff (Opera National du Rhin), Blonde Abduction from the Seraglio (Opera North), Contessa di Folleville Il viaggio a Reims (Maggio Musicale), Lucia Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera de Quebec), Adina L’elisir d’amore (Victorian Opera, Scottish Opera) and Jemmy Guillaume Tell (Academia di Santa Cecila) Countess Adele (cover) Le Comte Ory (Metropolitan Opera). Recordings include Jemmy Guillaume Tell with Sir Antonio Pappano (EMI), Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang for the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (ABC Classics), Krista The Makropulos Case for English National Opera with Sir Charles Mackerras (Chandos) and Frasquita Carmen for the Royal Opera Covent Garden. Engagements in 2011 included Lisa and the title role of Amina in the new production of La Sonnambula at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Jemmy Guillaume Tell for the BBC Proms and gala concerts in Poland and Australia as well as her Wigmore Hall debut. Future engagements include her debut at Glyndebourne as Clorinda Cenerentola, her return to the English National Opera, Carmina Burana for the Oxford Philharmusica, her debut at Wigmore Hall and her return to the Metropolitan Opera to cover two roles in 2013.
