Born in 1987, Andreas Brantelid is already one of Scandinavia's leading cellists and is quickly establishing an international reputation. He is currently a member of the BBC's New Generation Artist scheme and in 2009/10 joins the prestigious Lincoln Centre Chamber Music Society in New York. Andreas Brantelid received a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2008. He was nominated by the European Concert Hall Organization for their "Rising Star" recital series last season, and performed in many major venues including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikverein Vienna, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, Philharmonie Cologne and Stockholm Concert Hall. Andreas made his solo debut with orchestra at the age of 14 with the Royal Danish Orchestra, Copenhagen playing the Elgar Cello Concerto. Since then he has appeared as a soloist with all the major orchestras in Scandinavia. This season his performances include the Gothenburg Symphony, Hamburg Symphony, BBC Philharmonic and Vienna Chamber Orchestras. He will also give the world premiere performance of Rosing-Schow's Cello Concerto and make his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York. In April 2008 EMI released Andreas' debut concerto disc, to great critical acclaim. He is the first Scandinavian to win 1st Prize in the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition (2006) and the Paulo International Cello Competition (2007). Andreas Brantelid was Danish Radio's "Artist in Residence, 2007". Andreas Brantelid has studied with Henrik Brendstrup, Mats Rondin, Torleif Thedéen and at present with Frans Helmersson at the Kronberg Academy. He plays a 1690 Giovanni Grancino cello, generously sponsored by the Augustinus Foundation.

"The best thing about Brantelid’s playing is his intonation, which matches any string player in the world in its effortless precision. Next is his unforced beauty of tone: always in perfect taste. When it is so easy to over-sentimentalise Schubert, Brantelid’s performance was striking in its expertly judged restraint."

"His playing – warm and supple of tone – has the lyrical allure, lithe technique and discreet dramatic flair to give this familiar music a fresh impetus."
