Andreas Brantelid, born in 1987, is one of Scandinavia's leading cellists of his generation. He is the first Scandinavian ever to win First Prize in the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition (2006) and in the Paolo International Cello Competition (2007). He is elected "Rising Star" by European Concert Hall Organization in 2008 and he will give recitals in major prestigious halls all over Europe: Brussels, Salzburg, Birmingham, Vienna, Cologne, Luxembourg, Stockholm and Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. Andreas Brantelid was Danish Radio "Artist in Residence 2007". He made his solo debut with orchestra at the age of 14 with the Royal Danish Orchestra, playing Elgar. Since then he has appeared as soloist with the majority of orchestras all over Scandinavia. In 2002 he formed a duo with pianist Bengt Forsberg, and they tour extensively with recitals annually. Andreas Brantelid is a favoured guest in the important festivals. Andreas Brantelid will make his debut in Wigmore Hall, London in June 2008. A CD with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Schønwandt will be released in the course of spring 2008 on the EMI label. Light pieces for cello and piano with Bengt Forsberg will likewise be released shortly. Andreas Brantelid has received a number of grants and prizes; the Jacob Gade Grant, Victor Borge Music Award, Léonie Sonning Music Grant and Queen Ingrid Honorary Grant. He was given his first cello at the age of four, has studied with Henrik Brendstrup, Mats Rondin, Torleif Thedéen and at present with Frans Helmersson at the Kronberg Academy.
